Consulting, Research, Writing and Editing
Michael Kaufman consults, researches, writes and edits on a contract basis. Some examples of this work:
- For a UN agency in Rome, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, a participatory assessment involving staff and leadership on internal gender relations culminating in a series of recommendations.
- For a number of corporations and agencies: consultation on responding to situations of harassment and a poisoned work environment.
- For the Government of Ontario, Canada, Women's Directorate, a report, including policy recommendations, entitled, "Effective Education With Boys and Young Men to Help End Violence Against Women." Also, Dr. Kaufman wrote a fact sheet on boys, young men and violence against women and a position paper on broadening the Ontario government's violence prevention strategy. (2001)
- For UNICEF, assisted the writing process, helped organize and edit a book by Ruth Finney Hayward on violence against women and girls in South Asia (1998-1999).
- Edited newsletters, wrote speeches and press releases for the Harmony Movement, a Canadian organization promoting diversity. (1997-1998)
Dr. Kaufman has supervised Ph.D. and Masters theses, has done freelance writing for newspapers including the New York Times, and has done freelance editing on books relating to gender issues, social work, the environment, political science, and Third World issues.
